I'm David, a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Mindset Coach with a real passion in helping others to heal, and break free from fear, anxiety, and limiting beliefs. I’ve spent over 20 years supporting people to make real, lasting changes in their lives. I know from personal experience how powerful that transformation can be and, want I to pass on this experience to as many people as possible.
“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are”
Carl Jung
What shapes my approach is not any single method, but the way therapeutic practice, mindset coaching, and lived experience are integrated. Therapy helps you makes sense of what shaped you. Coaching supports how you shape what comes next.
Alongside evidence-based psychological frameworks, I draw on over 20 years’ experience in care and therapeutic settings, and my own lived understanding of healing, recovery, and personal growth. This allows the work to move beyond insight alone, supporting genuine internal shifts that continue well beyond our sessions. The focus is not short-term motivation or surface solutions but developing insight awareness and action around longstanding patterns and creating the conditions for conscious, sustainable change.
Mindset techniques are woven into the therapeutic process where this adds value, offering practical and adaptable ways to engage with thoughts, beliefs, and action orientated decision-making in everyday life. This supports not only understanding, but application, helping you relate differently to yourself, others, and the wider world with greater clarity, resilience, and intention.
My journey to becoming a mindset coach wasn’t a straight path. It was shaped by resilience, growth, and a deep desire to turn past struggles into purpose.
At 27, I found myself homeless, battling addiction and trauma, completely disconnected from any sense of direction. I felt lost. But that moment became a powerful turning point. While living in a homeless hostel, I began volunteering to help people and something shifted. Supporting others gave me meaning, and I realised that everything I’d experienced could help others find their path.
I went back to education. Step by step, I rebuilt my life. I qualified as a social worker, with over 20 years of supporting people through personal and professional change. I’ve led teams, and shaped services, that make a real difference in people’s lives. I am trained as an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a focus on Transactional Analysis, inner healing work, and life scripts. Blending Mindset Coaching with clinical understanding gives me a deep insight into the patterns that keep us stuck, and how to break free from them.
Now, I help others step into the life they want and move beyond fear, anxiety, and limiting beliefs, so they can reconnect with who they truly are and write a new story for themselves. My approach is grounded in both professional expertise and lived experience; I know what it’s like to feel stuck, and I know what it takes to move forward. I love this work, because I’ve lived it, and I know the incredible change that’s possible with the right insight, awareness and action.
Extensive experience to guide you through meaningful personal transformation.
David Carter Counselling, Coaching and Psychotherapy offers a clear, structured, and ethically grounded process designed to support meaningful, lasting change. From the outset, you can expect a way of working that is focused, transparent, and fully respectful of your autonomy, pace, and lived experience. The work is informed by established therapeutic values, including collaboration, confidentiality, and care.
The journey begins with a free connection call, providing a contained and reflective space to explore where you are now, what you may be struggling to resolve, and what you hope to change. We begin to identify patterns, beliefs, and internal dynamics shaping your experience. This conversation is also an opportunity to consider whether the working relationship feels right for you and aligned with your needs.
If you choose to proceed, sessions are shaped around your goals, whether that involves healing, confidence, focus, self-trust, or direction. The work is practical and reflective, integrating mindset coaching within a therapeutic framework. You’ll leave sessions with clear insights and areas of focus to explore between sessions.
Active engagement is encouraged, always within ethical boundaries and your capacity. This may include reflection, written exercises, or applying new perspectives in daily life, supporting gradual, sustainable change rather than pressure-driven outcomes.
Honestly without the coaching from him I would not be in the best place I have been in my whole life. The tools he has given and how he has helped me see myself, I would never have thought possible."
-James Parkinson
